Swedish music comes to Blessington once more

Swedish musicians, including 15 adult fiddle players and their leaders Margaretha Mattson & Britta Börjes, stayed at Avon Ri from the 13th to the 16th of November, attending a programme of traditional music events co-ordinated by Jeanette O'Toole, and bringing their own native music to the area.

On Friday night they attended and performed at the opening night concert of the Kilteel/Easestown Comhaltas Sult na Samhna 2009, alongside the McCarthys - Jacqueline (concertina), Marion (uilleann pipes), Bernadette (fiddle) - & local musicians.

On Saturday, after a day's sightseeing, they joined with local group Arc and fiddle players Phil Callery & Aidan Duffy in Hollywood for a night of superb music.

On Sunday, after another day's sightseeing, they attended a workshop in Avon Ri given by fiddle player Aidan Duffy.

Special thanks are due to Aulds bus company, Kilteel/Eadestown Comhaltas, the Hollywood Inn, Avon Ri & Blessington Forum (represented by Pat Conlon).
